2013 SAVMI Conference & Trade Show Recap
|The 28th Annual SAVMI Conference & Trade Show was held May 13-16, at the Two Rivers Convention Center in downtown Grand Junction, Colorado.
This year’s event attracted just over 300 attendees with representation from 52 resorts and 40 supplier companies. Members from around the country gathered for four days of educational seminars and hands-on training. Of course the good folks at Prinoth and Kassbohrer All Terrain Vehicles presented sessions on every aspect of maintaining & repairing their machines. However, attendees also learned about other areas of interest including troubleshooting hydraulics, advancements in lubrication technology, and diagnosing and repairing air brake system problems. And because SAVMI knows there’s more to running an efficient shop than just vehicle maintenance, there were also sessions on shop safety, surviving an EPA inspection and developing effective leadership skills.

During the annual event, SAVMI recognized and honored this year’s award winners. Justin Jarzynka with Winter Park Resort was awarded the Tim Crouse Memorial Award (aka Mechanic of the Year). The Vehicle Maintenance Support Award was presented to Paul Mangold with Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Winter Park Resort’s vehicle maintenance department was awarded the Safety Award. And Chris Nyberg, COO of Powdr Resorts was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

The trade show on Tuesday night was heavily attended and was a fantastic opportunity for suppliers to demonstrate their goods and for ski area personnel to learn the latest advancements in vehicle maintenance products and services. This year’s show saw the addition of some new suppliers including Chevron, HKD Snowmakers, H2O Power Equipment and Motion and Flow Control Products, Inc.

And although the primary focus was education, attendees didn’t miss out on the opportunity to get out and have some fun.
